End credit thoughts
Y2K is a campy, self-aware horror comedy that lands nearly every shot it takes. The late-90s nostalgia porn is laid on thick, but the movie is full of gruesome deaths, high school sex humor and is an all-around good time.
Some of the most iconic songs from the 90s are used as needle drops and they are crucial for setting the vibe for the movie. The N64 video games, products bought in catalogs, and of course AOL instant messenger all banded together to transport us to 1999 at whiplash speeds. At times it felt heavy-handed, but it speaks to the filmmaker’s vision and knowing exactly what they were going for.
As is often the case, Julian Dennison (Danny) steals the spotlight as the smart-ass-but-lovable Kiwi. The writer/director Kyle Mooney threw himself into the technological apocalypse as Garret, the stoner-white-dude-in-dreads, nailing this cultural-appropriating 90s phenomenon to a tee. Between this and I Saw the TV Glow, Fred Dusrt is showing his thespian range.
If you take the deaths from Final Destination, and add the vulgar humor of Superbad, you'll have a really good idea of what to expect from the gore in this movie. Y2K knows it's a bonkers, coming of age horror film, and it doesn't pretend to be anything else, which is one of the main reasons it's so fun.
Our theater had quite a few people we assume were in their late thirties, early forties who were in stitches laughing, and loved every cultural reference. If your favorite song is "Nookie", and you plan on hotboxing your car with your friends on the way, you'll have a blast in the theater. If that's not you, wait to watch this fun, whacky movie at home.

The Holdovers and The Dark Knight. Don't ask me why. And yes, The Holdovers might be recency bias. KICK ROCKS. The Holdovers is the fullest of movies, and The Dark Knight is my comfort movie. Comfort and fullness is all you can ask for during Christmas, yall.
Josh
The Holdovers (2023) You can call it recency bias and my family might disown me for not saying National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989), the movie we watched every holiday season growing up, but let's say this new favorite is entre nous. The Holdovers will hold you in thought, make you laugh, make you cry—it will make you contemplate all that makes life complex and beautiful, let alone the holidays.

I am a total sucker for any Christmas movie. I will groan anytime my wife starts any of the Princess Switch movies, and then happily watch the whole thing. I think it's because I just love Christmas vibes. For me, a movie that nails the Christmas vibe is Love Actually. I need to see Bill Nighy shaking his hips and singing Christmas covers to get me into the spirit. My only gripes with the movie are Andrew Lincoln and Dido's needle drop - talk about killing the Christmas vibe. god.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina(2025) Directed by Len Wiseman
Watching the trailer for Ballerina felt like going to a restaurant I love and getting a new dish. We get the world of John Wick, but a brand new, lethal lead in Ana de Armas. Len Wiseman also directed Underworld, which is one of my favorite action movies of all time (best depiction of werewolves in movie history). I have full faith in this franchise, cast, and crew.

🎧 Listen to this episode on Apple Podcasts or Spotify
Re-releasing the Harry Potter Medium Project series we originally released on our other channel onto this one.
In this episode, Sarah and Josh discuss the adaptation of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.
Listen in to hear Sarah and Josh lament the omission of Winky, butcher the pronunciation of Ralph Fiennes’s name (we’re so sorry!!), and have a rare moment of strong agreement about how incredible the graveyard scene is on the page and in the picture.
They discuss the differences between the book and its movie adaptation, sharing personal experiences and insights. Key topics include the portrayal of major characters, the missing house-elves, Voldemort's return, and the Quidditch World Cup. They also introduce fun segments like 'Hermione Haymaker' and debate the best and worst cast members.
